Giovanni Savini, DVM-PhD is the head of the Animal Health Department and Virology Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e Molise (IZSAM). he received his veterinary training at the Univ. of Milan, Italy, a PhD in Epidemiology from Murdoch University, Western Australia and a Post-graduate specialization in “Animal health, and hygiene of animal breeding and their products” from the Univ. of Pisa, Italy. In 2005, he was appointed as Bluetongue expert by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the Department which leads became the OIE Reference Laboratory for Bluetongue. His research activities are focused on viral diseases of animals that affect international trade and public health, including Bluetongue, African horse sickness, West Nile fever and Usutu. In 2011, he was included by the European Commission in the EU Veterinary Emergency Team. Since 2012, he is the editor in chief of the peer-reviewed international journal “Veterinaria Italiana”. He is author or co-author of more than 190 peer-reviewed publications and 4 book chapters. He has served as a Bluetongue expert to numerous organizations including the European Union and the Italian Ministry of Health. From July 4th 2014 till February 2017, he acted as Scientific Director of the IZSAM.

Dr. Rosario Panadero Fontán

Graduated from the Lugo Veterinary School (Spain) in 1991. Full Professor of Animal Health at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) since 2001. De facto member of the European Veterinary Parasitology College (EVPC), EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Parasitology since 2003.

Her primary research areas focus on epidemiology, immunopathology and diagnosis of arthropodosis affecting domestic and wild animals. Has completed her formation in national and international research centers as the INRA (Tours, France) and the Lethbridge Research Centre (Agriculture and Agri-Food, Canada). Has coordinated the research network (RUMIGAL): network of multidisciplinary study of ruminants in Galicia that integrated specialists from different fields (animal health and welfare, reproduction and nutrition). Coordinator of the USC Official Master’s Degree “Research in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Health” from 2010 to 2017. Member of the Spanish Society of Parasitologists (SOCEPA) and the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP).
